Calcium Carbonate Testing

China's calcium carbonate industry has transitioned from primary processing to functional and customized solutions alongside the upgrading of downstream industries. In the 1980s and 1990s, relying on abundant calcite and limestone resources in Guangxi, Anhui, and other regions, the industry focused on mining and primary grinding of natural minerals. Products were mostly ordinary ground calcium carbonate (GCC) powder (fineness ≤ 325 mesh, whiteness ≤ 85%), mainly used in basic applications like architectural coatings, plastic fillers, and paper fillers, characterized by non-uniform particle size, high purity variability, and low added value.

Since the turn of the century, upgraded demands for plastic modification, lightweight paper, and high-performance coatings, combined with stricter environmental policies, have driven the industry's transformation toward ultra-fine processing, surface modification, and product specialization. Natural calcium carbonate achieves fineness levels of over 12,500 mesh through ultra-fine grinding. Coupling agent modification enhances compatibility with polymer materials. Synthetic calcium carbonate (precipitated calcium carbonate, PCC), produced via limestone calcination, has led to the development of nano-scale, spindle-shaped, cubic, and other specialized morphological products, enabling breakthroughs in high-end plastic reinforcement, paper coating, and ink thickening applications.

In recent years, high-end demands from new energy (lithium battery separator coatings, cathode material dispersants) and the pharmaceutical/food sectors (calcium supplements, food additives) have emerged. Coupled with evolving standards, the industry is accelerating its upgrade toward efficient resource utilization and high-end product specialization. Today, China is the world's largest producer and consumer of calcium carbonate, with products covering the full range: ground calcium carbonate (GCC: standard, ultra-fine, nano-grade), precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC: precipitated, activated), and food/pharmaceutical-grade calcium carbonate. These are widely used in dozens of fields, including plastics, paper, paints, new energy, and pharmaceuticals/food.

We have set up a dedicated calcium carbonate mineral testing team. Based on product type and application scenario (plastic filler, paper coating, lithium battery coating, pharmaceutical excipient), we provide customized testing services—including whiteness determination, fineness testing, purity analysis, surface modification effectiveness evaluation, and heavy metal screening—helping products build advantages in performance optimization and regulatory compliance.
