Magnesite Testing

China's magnesite industry has transitioned from primary processing to deep utilization and high-end extension, alongside the upgrading of the magnesia-based materials industry. In the 1980s and 1990s, relying on globally high-quality magnesite resources in Haicheng and Yingkou (Liaoning Province), the industry focused on mining and primary calcination. Products were mostly caustic calcined magnesia powder, used in basic fields like ordinary refractory bricks and cement additives, characterized by high purity variability, high energy consumption, and limited added value.

Since the turn of the century, the large-scale development of the steel industry, expansion of the magnesium chemical industry, and stricter environmental policies have driven the industry's transformation toward purification, precise calcination, and product extension. High purity (MgO content ≥ 95%, with premium grades reaching over 98%) is achieved through flotation and gravity separation. Graded products have been developed, including light-burned magnesia, dead-burned magnesia, and fused magnesia. High-end derivatives such as magnesium alloys, magnesium oxide whiskers, and magnesium-based environmental materials have been extended, enabling breakthroughs in high-end refractories (ladle lining bricks), new magnesium-based materials, and environmental desulfurization applications.

In recent years, high-end demands from new energy (precursors for lithium battery cathode materials) and aerospace (lightweight magnesium alloys) have emerged. Coupled with the evolution of relevant standards (e.g., chemical analysis methods for magnesite and dolomite refractory products), the industry is accelerating its upgrade toward resource efficiency and high-end products. Today, China is the world's largest producer and exporter of magnesite, with products covering the full spectrum: raw ore, magnesia series (various grades), magnesium compounds, and magnesium alloys. These are widely used in dozens of fields, including steel, chemicals, building materials, new energy, and aerospace.

We have set up a dedicated magnesite mineral testing team. Based on product type and application scenario (high-end refractories, magnesium chemical raw material, new energy precursor, magnesium alloy substrate), we provide customized testing services—including purity analysis, loss on ignition (LOI) testing, particle size distribution, impurity element screening (silicon, calcium, iron), and high-temperature stability—helping products build advantages in performance optimization and regulatory compliance.
